In my opinion, many mindless things are more mindful than we think, and the societal pressure that constantly bears down on us to always be productive is overrated. I agree with Oscar Wilde to a point, that idleness can lead to bursts of creativity and productivity even, not to mention that it probably contributes to brain health and recuperation in general. So many people around me actually get moody and cranky if they don't have every minute of the day crammed with something to do, which oftentimes ends up being frivolous and wasteful in and of itself, not to mention that without time to simply think, ponder, and reflect one might be missing out on meaning and enlightenment. Some of these are the same people who could never ever simply listen to music without doing ANYTHING else at all. Wasted time is just part of being alive, and I think more of us should accept it and embrace it.
Having said that, I think hobbies are important, and scrapbooking is awesome. For myself, I could really say that when it comes to winter, "I enjoy it---with reservations." I ski and do construction projects, but anyone can get into anything at all, no matter the time of year. For me, it is the summer now that has changed. Not to turn your thread around, TM, but as one who can't handle excessive heat and who "used to dread it somewhat," I don't anymore after having acquired an old waterski boat this year. It's been more work than play this first season, to be honest, but the whole process of fixing it up and taking it out and learning all the different things you can do with boating has really brightened my outlook for next summer. Find some things and get into them, and sooner or later you won't be too concerned with what time of year it is!
