You can't go wrong with those two albums. Both these ladies wrote masterful lyrics for these two albums. The Merchant album is rather dark and bitter but she demonstrates rare depth and insight with her songwriting, and great sophistication in singing those words into stories. You "feel" the story. Feel her pain. Great art!

Lucinda and her band take you to the deep South and you can almost smell the whiskey, and sex, and it is easy to visualize the characters she writes about. Rarely do I spin an album over and over again but that is where I am at with this one. I can't get enough of it. The music alone, is interesting, and diverse enough, to make it never get old, and always fresh no matter how many times you listen. A great taste of the real south.
