I had to give this question some thought. Not nescesarily my favorite albums, but these had a huge impact on me. Here goes:
Bob Dylan - Blood On The Tracks. If you've been where Bob went for this one, you know why.
Iron Maiden - Live After Death. The double album from this great metal band may be seen as an odd choice, but it was the soundtrack of my early teens. I gave it a spin last week and I still can sing and hum along with the lyrics, the guitars and the roars of the crowd. Maiden = FUN!
Ryan Adams & The Cardinals: Jacksonville City Nights. I was already leaning towards country, but it had to be rock flavoured for me to dig a disc. Ryan Adams is just the guy to provide me with that stuff. But then he made this one: a pure country album. And it opened the door for me.
Leonard Cohen: I'm Your Man. This album was a favorite of my parents when it came out and I hated it. Things changed over the years: as I got older I picked it up from a cut-out bin for the heck of it. In the end it led to Leonard Cohen being the first gig my son could hear: Ilona was 7 months pregnant when we saw him in the Amsterdam Olympic Stadium in 2012.
Gutterball - The self titled debut of Steve Wynn's kick arse band was the favorite album in house where I lived with a bunch of friends when I was going through college. Like Live After Death, I can dream this album and sing along with every line. Even now, and I think I haven't given it a listen in two years.
