The Stones followed suit in the world of psychedelia.
The Beatles - with the help of George Martin and
drugs produced a thickly layered and well written
album. The Stones - a rock and blues band, dropped
acid and jumped on the psychedelic bandwagon that
everyone was jumping on in 66-67. Sgt. Pepper was
huge because it broke new ground...Satanic floundered
because it was a feeble attempt at RECREATING what
the Beatles had just CREATED through Sgt. Pepper.
The Circus was just an offshoot of the same thing.
The Beatles were doing their Magical Mystery Tour
etc. and in the true spirit of the Stones that year,
they followed rather than lead. As soon as the Stones
realized what kind of band they were and what they
were good at, good music returned and Honkey Tonk
this and Gimme Gimme Mick and all that shit - ya know!
