What you say below is true. But I must say that I think that Sgt. Pepper is the most overrated record ever made. "With a Little Help From My Friends" is the only good song on the record. Revolver and Rubber Soul were much better records.

In fact, Revolver is the only Beatles record I would put in the same class as the Stones records from Beggars through Exile. I would put Sgt. Pepper on approximately the same quality level as Goats Head Soup. Both were records made just after the bands had peaked. Actually I'd give GHS the edge because it's less pretentious.

: The Stones followed suit in the world of psychedelia.
: The Beatles - with the help of George Martin and
: drugs produced a thickly layered and well written
: album. The Stones - a rock and blues band, dropped
: acid and jumped on the psychedelic bandwagon that
: everyone was jumping on in 66-67. Sgt. Pepper was
: huge because it broke new ground...Satanic floundered
: because it was a feeble attempt at RECREATING what
: the Beatles had just CREATED through Sgt. Pepper.
: The Circus was just an offshoot of the same thing.
: The Beatles were doing their Magical Mystery Tour
: etc. and in the true spirit of the Stones that year,
: they followed rather than lead. As soon as the Stones
: realized what kind of band they were and what they
: were good at, good music returned and Honkey Tonk
: this and Gimme Gimme Mick and all that shit - ya know!
