"The Immediate Pleasure", "My Degeneration", and especially ahead of its time "When the Night Falls" are all great. Freakbeat at its best. I love this group. They keep you at the edge of your seat!
I figured out how to access their songs on YouTube -- Before, I simply typed 'The Eyes', and I only got the one song (there's another group called The Eyes!) but type a song title after 'The Eyes' and you get wonderful results.
I see somebody uploaded that whole comp album, The Arrival of The Eyes: Complete Recordings, that Amazon has which I linked in my above post. ⬆️⬆️⬆️ I'd like to personally thank that person.
As I've said before, one thing I really dig about Gasland is all the great music I've been turned on to thanks to the Gassers. "The Eyes" are just the latest goldmine thanks to Pluto!
Songs were definitely regional in America, especially the first decade of the rock 'n' roll era, that's why great singles didn't chart as well as they should have because they weren't big in parts of the country at the same time. Deejay Bob Mathers explained it that way. An excellent example of this is the 1957 hit "Tonite, Tonite" by The Mello-Kings. During the 70s, 80s, & even the 90s, when an Oldies station asked to vote your favorite Oldies, that song would always finish at or near the top --- always. (I had that record. 🙋♂️)
It was huge in '57, BUT it would go in and out of the Billboard Hot 100, the highest it would peak was at #80. That's it. Eighty! Why? Because it would be huge in one part of the country, then another, and so on — but not all places at the same time.
Well anyway, I want to check out The Poets hopefully tomorrow.
