RE: RIP Y.A. Tittle

I recall my very first NFL football game that I went to, it was at the old Yankee Stadium in 1961. The NY Giants against the Detroit Lions, on a very cold December day, and after half time it started to snow on us. But we had box seats in the first row, right next to where the visitors baseball dugout was, but the NFL didn't use them of course, and the football field was far away, out where the baseball outfield was. But Y.A. Tittle was the Giants QB and they won the game. I was a preteen then and football really wasn't my sport yet, as baseball was my game until I hit my teens, then I got football fever. But I recall my dad telling me about Tittle and what a great QB he was and I became a Giants' fan and Y.A. Tittle fan on that day.

Funny, I also recall asking my dad after the game if he would take me to a baseball game at Yankee stadium that next summer, since at that point, although I'd been to Ebbett's field when I was 2 or 3, I couldn't remember going. But dad quickly said "No way", as he hated the Yankees, but he told me that a new baseball team was starting up that next summer next door to Yankee stadium, at the old Polo Grounds (actually just across the Harlem river, but within walking distance from each other), and yes, I got to see the new Mets that next summer a couple of times. But it was dad, Y.A. Tittle, and the Giants who planted the seed in me that day, yet it would take several years to really sprout in me, but in time it sure did, even if by the mid '60s I was a Bronco fan, and in '67 I saw my first AFL Bronco game at Shea Stadium against the Jets. Gosh, all 4 of those NY stadiums are long gone now, as is dad, and now so is Tittle, too.
