At the end of the day, yes they can hide behind the first amendment, but just because you have a RIGHT to do something it doesn't necessarily mean that you should.
Of course you should protest when you feel you need to, and if you don't do it because of money, then you are a hypocrite. But if we never protest, or if we aren't allowed to protest, then we aren't free anymore.
I'm not a patriot by any means, and I never served in the military, and never would have if my number had come up in the draft. Lucky for me it didn't. Yet even I hate it when anybody does that to our flag. I still love my country, one doesn't have to be a patriot, serve in the military, or be right wing to love their country. There are other ways to show our love. As much as many of us dislike it, taking a knee when that song plays, is what being an American is all about. We are free and allowed to do that, that's why our country is special and a great country. Even a phony jerk like Trump can hump the flag if he wanted to. Remember that time when he hugged the flag? How phony he looked when he did that!... and everybody knew why he did that. If he loved the flag so much, why didn't he hug it when it was his time to be drafted? He ran from the very same flag back then, and because his rich daddy knew the people who to pay off, he got not one, but 5 deferments and never served a day! He's as phony as they get, Ronnie!
