I am a huge fan of Pink Floyd. While they are very dissimilar to the other huge act of there era (Beatles, Zeppelin, Stones, The Who) they are, in their own way, just as great.

Despite owning and loving all Floyd records for most of my life, I have never delved into Barrett's solo work. I must do this and will do it one day. With that said, I do feel that Syd Barrett is somewhat mythologized in the Pink Floyd universe. The band was great in the 1970s, so many figure that the band's founder, while not present in the 70s and having little or no creative input during that time, must still deserve credit as he got the thing rolling in the 60s. Basically I feel that Barrett's influence is overstated. For Pink Floyd's greatest works, Dark Side Of The Moon, Wish You Were Here, The Wall... Syd Barrett is just not there. I know he attended studio sessions on some of the tracks of the aforementioned records, but he's really just not part of the band in the 1970s.
