You are correct, Keno. I didn't do a good job of clarifying what I meant to say. Of course I don't mind covers. As you mentioned, a lot of the Stones early stuff consisted of covers, which I love. In Layla's case, it is a remake that just didn't do it for me. When Clapton remade After Midnight, I DID enjoy both versions. I guess it depends on the song and how it is remade. A classic like Layla should have just been left alone, IMO. It would be like the Stones remaking JJF or Satisfaction as a slow song. It would take all the balls out of it as I believe Clapton did to Layla.

As far as covers go, I think Keith Richards described it best when he said that the Stones were covering mostly "obscure' songs back in the day. With the exception of SFTD by GnR, my stance is, for the most part, I think the all time great songs should be left alone, too. Of course, there are exceptions to the rule but for the most part, that's how I feel.
