The boring US cover of "Jump Back" gets a very generous 5 from me, same as its UK counterpart. Meh! I may not feel so kind-hearted the next time a mediocre cover comes along.
"Paint It Black" in the first rock poll. I totally admit that it was a sentimental vote. There were so many great picks in that poll that choosing just one was simply impossible.
I'm going to go against what will surely be the popular vote in the second poll and opt for the 1992 version. I loved that whole Clapton Unplugged show from beginning to end. But also, I'm just tired of the original "Layla".
BTW Keno, Gary Rossington does the same kind of "chirping" guitar sounds that Duane does, at the begenning of "Free Bird". I assume that one got it from the other but who was first is not easy to determine. Unless Duane also did it in previous songs. "Layla" is from 1971 but "Free Bird" developed over many years and the earliest recorded version is from 1968.
"Taxman" in the Beatles poll. What a great song, and a fabulous opening to the great "Revolver" album! I didn't know Paul played lead guitar on that one. I always assumed it was George, and I'm sure I'm not the only one. Learn something new every day, Ronnie!
