RE: RE: 2 replies

Boy, where are all the poll posts replies this morning, only 2 so far, while the polls are getting a ton of votes early on - yet I haven't even voted myself yet, other than in the Stones poll, since that one was easy as pie to vote in, and although I haven't voted in the VS poll yet, I know which version of the Clapton song I'll go with. But I still need time to think over my choices for the Rock and Fab's polls.

Only 2 replies so far but great comments from the two anyway....

Stones poll: 3. A little better than the Boot cover but nothing great.

Really, you think so? To me, this cover is their all time worst, even worse than the Grrr cover which I and most fans gave a zero to. But at least that one showed that some effort was given to it, or even a thought, whereas this cover is as boring and dull as you can get, without any thinking behind it at all.

Versus Poll: Layla by Derek and the Dominos. He massacred that classic with the accoustic version

Wow, I really liked his acoustic take of this one, even if I don't plan to vote for it.

Rock Poll: Jumpin Jack Flash. The opening of that song gets me going even if I'm not in the mood to get going,

I'm totally unsure to which song I'll go with yet, too many good ones, but I totally agree with what you noted... same deal with me, no song gets my attention better than this one and it is my favorite opening to any of the Stones songs. But there are so many other great openings on this list, so I'll need some more time to think this one over!

Beatles Poll: And Your Bird Can Sing.

This song is doing great in the early voting and I'm totally shocked (and I always like it when I'm shocked in the poll voting, means I'm learning something!). It's an okay song to me, but not what I'll end up voting for, but, let me take a guess why it's doing so well early on. Stones fans always do the most voting on Mondays, and this song is perhaps the only Beatles song that I can think of that features guitar weaving in it, something that us Stones fans love. So maybe that's why?? I should note that I had to add next to the song's listing "(with George)" as I forgot to have it down that way when I published the poll's on Saturday. No question, George plays as much of the lead as Paul plays on this one.

BTW Keno, Gary Rossington does the same kind of "chirping" guitar sounds that Duane does, at the begenning of "Free Bird". I assume that one got it from the other but who was first is not easy to determine. Unless Duane also did it in previous songs.

I'm positive it came from Duane, as he did play that "bird call" live often, even in the earliest of days and long before this song came out. In fact, it is named after him, it's known, or at least was known as "Duane's bird call". You can bet that Rossington got it from him.

"Taxman" in the Beatles poll..... I didn't know Paul played lead guitar on that one. I always assumed it was George,

George of course wrote the song, but why Paul played the lead I've never read anywhere before, other than George noted he was super happy with how Paul played the lead part. John on the other hand played nothing on this great song, he only added in his backing vocals to it and came up with a bit of the lyrics, the ones about Harold Wilson and Edward Heath.
