In 1967 the 13th Floor Elevators were one of the top bands in Dallas. They bought an old grocery store and were making a teenage (no liquor) club out of the place. The night it was supposed to open, there were at least 1,000 kids waiting in line to get into the place. The doors never opened, no tickets were ever sold, and the place sat there rotting away. It was later learned that Roky Erickson had been busted for weed (maybe acid too), and his lawyer talked him into plea bargaining as not fit to stand trial. The poor guy did close to 20 years in the nut house. I never heard anything about that incident until Roky was released. I think this guy could have had it all had this not gone down. Just my opinion...
