RE: What's Spinning?

Even though this joint is usually peaceful overall, for the last several years whenever it's been at its busiest, has been when people are arguing over whatever the subject matter is, and usually that means an off topic subject matter (aka NSC). Remember all the political fights that used to take place here? In the last year they have almost totally disappeared from Gasx3, and in a midterm US election year yet!

The plain fact is that the people who used to argued the most here, have left, in part because those of us who are still here don't wish to play the flame game any longer. That makes for a lot less posts and replies. The other problem is the Stones are touring down under and we don't really have anybody here who lives over there to send in reports of how the shows were, etc. In the past we had, if I recall, 2 or 3 such Gassers, but they left a few years back. People just grow tired of messageboards after a while and move on, and with the new social sites all over the place these days, most MBs have died and are no longer around, the ones still around like Gasland aren't as active in part because few newcomers ever join up (they go instead to places like Facebook and Twitter).

Look at the 2 longest threads this month, one is a NSC post (which have always been most popular here and still are), the other is about the Stones, but it's in the argumentative mold, too. Those are also the 2 most read threads this month. But at least when we do argue/mini flame now, it's not a Gasser hating another Gasser like it used to be, those of us left do respect each other, and the ones who didn't, are gone. So we do seem to handle such posts much better today.

For myself, as the boardmaster, I hate even light flame posts (they mean more cleanup for me) so I don't miss them at all, other than I did enjoy (and miss) some of our political NSC posts. I don't miss the people who started flame posts, although I do miss their non-flame posts for sure, but if a Gasser can only get off on flaming another, who needs or wants such a person around? Flaming sucks and I rather have a dead board than one filled with flames. Not that this place is dead, but no question posts are down some and they are down for the reasons noted.... other than one last reason I haven't noted yet. That is, the Stones just don't bring in new fans any longer, and all one has to do is look at the other Stones sites on the net to see this is true (I'm talking Stones sites, not Stones boards - even the Stones official site is down as far as page views go). Yes, page views and visits are down at all of the Stones major sites compared to when they held their last big tour, plus there aren't anywhere as many Stones sites up on the net as there used to be in the early '00s.

That's not to say us old time fans aren't out there, but most of us who post at boards have been doing so for many years and just how many times can you repeat yourself at the same joint? I do repeat things I posted years ago since we do have new Gassers here who never read what I first had to say, but others rather not repost old stories and in time they post very little. Plus as noted the other day, a few of our fellow Gassers like C. Fang have died, too.

So that's why things are slow here, and unless we start flaming each other again, or something big happens with the Stones (like a new LP or a major US tour), I don't expect a big increase in pageviews for Gasland or any of the other Stone sites. But again, it isn't like our joint is dying, in fact pageviews are still strong here, just not as strong as they been during past tours. But still lots read this place daily, and if you have something to say or share, please do!

DA, I appreciate your drive to get us to post more, and yes, a 'what's spinning" thread always helps to do the trick, even if I find my own reply to such a question boring, as in my old age I've become somewhat boring music wise. I'm usually too lazy to pick out CDs to play and instead just turn on SiriusXM radio instead, which sadly has become "repeat city" music wise since their merger. Sirius radio used to play deep cuts even on the classic vinyl rock station before the merger, and then for whatever stupid reason they ditched the format they had and took in XM's terrible, FM like format that repeats 80% of the songs they play over and over again (and this is the case on all of their stations today, not just the classic vinyl rock station). They also once had that great Stones station which also fell by the wayside after the merger, and I find I can't take hearing too much of their stations any longer. As it is, I play a different station each day just to avoid the repeats, whereas I would be happy just hearing the Classic Vinyl station 5 days a week and then the blues station for the rest.

The last time we played CDs at my house was Saturday afternoon, the 5 CDs played were: Paul McCartney's Band on the Run(Jackie's favorite artist of late), ACDC's Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap (hadn't played that one in years), Elton John's Don't Shoot Me... (that one gets played a lot), Lou Reed's Rock n Roll Animal (another one played a lot of late here), and a 70 minute CD I burned a few years back which is a mix of Classic Rock and Motown. Usually there's always a Stones CD in the mix, but it just didn't happen this time around.
