I don't think that judges get fooled by fake "redemptions" any more than you and I would. Probably even less so, because they've been around the block a few times and they know the drill.

John Lennon's killer is still in jail going on 34 years after the fact. All his requests for parole have been denied. Seems to me that the system is working pretty well in his case.

Imperfect as it is, the justice system doesn't make a habit of releasing dangerous individuals into the community. "An eye for an eye" may be satisfying in the short term, but it is barbaric.
