I consider John Lennon a great man. He was certainly more than just a Rock Star. He was both tough and sensitive. A free thinker. A smart, independent thinker. He gave a damn about people outside of his circle and had the courage to use his celebrity to focus the public on peace and the stupidity of continuing the Vietnam War, along with many other injustices in the World.
He didn't have to. He could have used his considerable wealth and his time to simply live in the lap of luxury, take vacations, and focus entirely on a pleasurable life for himself and his loved ones. No one would have thought ill of him if he had. Yet he chose a different, more noble path. I admire him for that beyond the great music.
