RE: What are some of your favorite songs post 2000

I never think of things in terms of just a song. If I don't like the whole album, I usually lose whatever infatuation with the song I had pretty quickly. But there have been some absolutely fantastic albums in this decade.

Number one, and nothing else is even close, is Sleater/Kinney - The Woods. I literally have to be careful when listening to this, because I'll just listen to that over and over, for days. It's everything a truly great album should be.

The Dexateens - Red Dust Rising. I like everything they've done, but Red Dust is just pure guitar firepower, and the attitude and lyrics really made me start looking for more southern music to like.

Lucero - Tennessee. I like all their stuff, too. This one is the one that I like the most, though. It's a slow album, and it's kind of moody, but I like it a lot.

The Reigning Sound - Time Bomb High School. If Sleater/Kinney hadn't set the bar so impossibly high with The Woods, I'd probably say this is my favorite album of the decade. The title track, Dressy, Reptile Style and the killer cover of I Don't Believe are worth twice the price of the album all on their own. The other ten songs are great, too.

Ladyhawk - Ladyhawk. There's just something about Duffy Dreidiger's songs that really just gets to me. I love these guys, and they rocked my face off and I felt like they only played for fifteen minutes and it was much closer to two hours.

I could keep going on and on. A Bigger Bang would never make my list. That album had me ready to find a new favorite band, and it took me at least six months to recover. I'll never play it again.
