This question was raised in an earlier thread, but I just thought I would bring it forward here to comment on it, if no one minds...
It's a question probably none of us like to think about.
I agree, performing as "The Rolling Stones" seems impossible without both Jagger and Richards. Take one of them away, you have no Stones.
Take Ron Wood away... it'd be sad. But I agree they could go on.
Take Charlie away... I do actually think they might go on. I know that's a borderline offensive comment, but in reality he is not a creative force in the band the way Mick and Keith are. He is so totally beloved, but he doesn't write or sing the songs. If he were silently replaced on a recording, we might not no it. And while Mick and Keith would be devastated if Charlie was gone, their love of performing and recording would motivate them to carry on.
The band line up is important to us, but even after a death, remaining members would have some right to continue if they wished. Nothing is really sacrosanct here. Consider that Paul McCartney continues to perform Beatles songs even now, and that he has occasionally even performed with Ringo Starr.
I have a feeling that we could see a surviving Glimmer Twin play Stones songs years from now, perhaps with surviving band-mates, and that would be okay.
Its very possible (and probably more likely) that we won't see one of them die, but rather be simply unable to continue due to health reasons.
