RE: The Grammy's: boring, mediocre, inane, inane.

manny, there is so much good music still coming out today! Yes, there are also tremendous heaps of trash, but man--you can't stay stuck ONLY on the Beatles and Stones until the day you die!

Oh yes he can, if that's what he likes best! Anybody who only has records from those 2 groups, has a great collection, and if that's all they like, since today's rock music sucks - and it does, that doesn't mean they can't enjoy what they have.

The state of music today is actually just fine, even great, you just have to look a little harder and search a little longer

This is of course a matter of opinion, one which I and many others disagree with. I have looked and I have listened. Having a 16 year old living with me exposes me to new music everyday, and 99% of the new Rock music flat out sucks. I have gotten to hear some stuff that is new that I do like, like Bob Marley's kid's music (can't remember his first name), and he's real good, but his music is a lot like his dad's, too, which is not like typical new rock music at all. Then since my grandson is also into country music too, I like some of the new stuff coming out in that genre. But the new rock/rap music he plays - all flat out sucks. Why does new country or new reggae still sound good today to me when new rock music doesn't? It's because the new rock artists mainly suck in what they put out. I mean, why do I still like any new Stones music I hear? Because they are still putting out new, but old blues music, if you go by their latest release, and before that, I flat out loved ABB since it didn't sound like the crap most of the newer rockers release.

If that fails you, then yes, the simple explanation is that you're getting old.

That statement is a total falsehood to me since you are claiming and attaching your statement to music. Just because most of the new music that I hear and I dislike, and sounds like crap to me, has nothing to do with my age, it had everything to do with what I'm hearing! We all are getting old, and no, that doesn't mean our music had to die and get old with us, but when, just when is this new generation gonna put out stuff that I like to hear? The problem isn't that my generation is getting old, it's that the new generation is putting out crap music, and most of the musicians from my era either are dead, retired, or just not putting out any good music anymore. So although it isn't all young people's fault and just them who aren't putting out good, new rock music, it still has nothing to do with age either, or people my age just getting lazy and not looking for new music.

But seriously no matter the number of units one might count by since the day of their birth, you don't ever have to really be 'old.'

I wish that was true, and for your mindset, yes, it can be true if you try to let it be that way, to a point... but, and a big but... when your body starts to fall a part because of age, there isn't a lot you can do about it once you are old - period. I went through 4 surgeries in less than a year, about a year ago, and they weren't able to help me, so I got to live with the old body I have, like it or not, and there's nothing I can do about it, since I'm not cured and I'm done going under the knife again, since the odds are against me. Having a broken body that you can't control because of age, is the reality of life, and with some things yes, if you watch yourself when you're young (like don't smoke tobacco when you're young), you will be in much better shape when you grow old, but you still will be old regardless, and nobody lives forever, period. But I also know that the problems I'm having as an older man, has nothing to do what so ever with how I behaved in my youth. There are just some body parts that go on you in time and taking care of yourself when you are young can't stop them from going bad in time - period!

Staying young at heart is easier (and healthier) than people think, I think!

I know you mean well in your words, and there's no question in some cases that's all true, and being positive is so very important in living a good long life, too... But again, some things you can't control. I had this one close, older friend for many years who totally took care of himself, went hiking in the mountains almost everyday and did other positive things like that to stay in shape, he ate healthy foods only, and he would say he wasn't gonna die young like his father did. Yet in his early 60s he came down with Alzheimers, and he was dead 10 years later, really more like 5 or 6 years later as far as to being the man he was and who we all knew, that part of him died first.

Some things you can't control, and for me, music is what helps keep me feeling younger, yes, but it's the old music that does it for me, while the new rock music does nothing but make me feel bad that it's lacking so badly in what is being produced. But it has nothing to do with age or being old, or getting old, believe me.
