RE: RE: RE: The Grammy's: boring, mediocre,

Exactly Manny, where is the new John Lennon or Janis Joplin? None of the current acts can hold a candle to any of the countless great rock acts of the 1960s and '70s. Hell, I recall by the late '80s, I was starting to complain about the state of rock music back then, yet looking back today on '80s music, even then there was some great stuff released that was light years better than the crap coming out today. By the late '80s and early '90s, thanks in part to working with a country station, I totally got into country music and knew every new country n western song that was out, and realize back then that when it came to new music only, by the mid '90s country was putting out better music than rock was, and it wasn't even close. Then I stopped listening to new country music as I got more into Classical music in the mid '90s, and the only other music I listened to was old Beatles and Stones. Then in the late '90s, thanks in part to this place, people like 2000 Man would suggest that we all get into the new rock music of today, so I did try, but most of what was being suggested didn't click with me. But I started again to keep an open ear to new rock music, and I did like the new stuff Guns n Roses was putting out, along with the new band that came from their second guitarist after they broke up, the Ju Ju Hounds were excellent and sounded like the old Stones, indeed! Then in the mid '00s I found a new band called "Back Door Slam", a band of all young kids just out of high school, and they were very good too, playing blues rock music. But after their second studio LP, sadly, they broke up. I think they were together for something like only 5 years, that was it. Yet I still play their debut LP today and enjoy it.

So if new music was being made in the same way - or at least close to how it was made in the '60s and '70s, that would be just fine with me and I would listen to it... but it isn't being made in that way today at all, and what I am hearing as far as new rock music goes - sucks, and that's the bottom line.
