Could they have chopped this down and turned it into a single disc and would it have been received warmly as a Big 4 or 5? ABSOLUTELY. Exile contains some of their best work ever. It is not "arguably" one of the best STones records ever. It is THE BEST EVER. But yes, it could have been cut down and still been considered one of the best.

But then, the world would have been deprived of a masterpiece. Deprived of sheer ecstasy. Deprive of the holy grail itself. Deprived of the most rock and roll of all rock and roll records. you don't paint a mustache on the Mona Lisa. you don't tug on Superman's cape. You don't play the Eagles or Led Zep when the 2000Man is at the bar.

Exile is the Stones at their best, which is to say it's the brilliant hallmark Stones songwriting. MT as a contributor, not overplaying it, but nailing it. He was following orders like a good soldier.

I am Exile Mafia proud. Exile is the Greatest Stones record ever. Which makes it the greatest Rock and Roll record ever.
