So some of the Gassers in this thread think he is doing this only to sell more albums and make page 1 of the paper? Can you really know who the real Keith Richards is to say that? I think all of you know him to a point, but I can't agree with any of those who think he does this just for the publicly! That ins't it at all! Just think of who we are talking about here.... it's Keith and he doesn't do that for the publicly!
Is it really cool to put down others simply so that you can make the press and perhaps sell an extra album or 2? If you just make good music, then people will buy what you're putting out regardless of that you say, especially if your name is Keith Richards... hell, you got a head start on everybody else in that case! You don't have to act like an asshole to everybody else (like your friends and peers) in the process to sell music, if you do, then your music must not be too good to begin with. Doing that isn't going to sell more albums for you anyway.... yeah you might make the front page of the News, but that alone ins't going to sell more albums if the LP you're pushing sucks (and Keith knows this!).
I mean, when Ginger Baker does this (and he said the Stones suck as musicians, why does Keith not address that!?) we all called Baker an asshole for saying that, but it's okay to some here when Keith does the very same thing because he's only trying to make the front page and push his new LP? No, it's not okay (especially if it's said for that reason only!). It ins't okay to ever put your friends down for no reason other than to make money off your comments. But the thing is, Keith isn't saying these mean spirited things to sell his new album. He's been talking shit like this for years now, putting down others when he had nothing to sell at all. He does it simply because that's who he is, he's not the nice guy some of you think he is, and as he ages, he just gets meaner. As we all know, deep down he don't give a shit what others think about him. That is Keith Richards, he ins't just putting down others to sell his new record, he's just being himself. Now yes, you can say that he is being honest, even if you disagree with him, and he ins't going to make any new friends or gain any new fans in saying what he does today, and he knows that, and he don't care, since again, he is being himself. But no, he ins't trying to sell anything when he talks in this matter!
When I was younger I liked that about Keith, he was always himself, and he's still the same way today. Only difference today for me, is as an old man myself now, I realize that ins't really cool at all, it just makes you look like a jackass to most when you do it, be it if your name is Ginger Baker, Joe Blow, or Keith Richards. Plus, my comments here have nothing to do with Keith and the many falsehoods that he makes since none of that came up in the interview. But that's another subject that also doesn't make him look too good.... but again, Keith don't give a shit what it makes him look like, and no, he ain't saying this stuff to sell his new album or make the front page of the paper.
