Why I haven't done it myself-the truth about me.

I agree with you Fender Bender. I think what may ultimately prove most valuable is that this book will open the door for a definitive book on Brian the musician. I wish I could do one, but I haven't the health to go to England and do it properly right now.

Plus when I did my Elvis Music FAQ book there was so much stress from people who wanted shit off of me because I had a published book from a major company. People wanted me to get them jobs, one jealous author who only had privately published books stalked me site to site with a long ranting one star review. I am really too sensitive for that kind of bashing.

So it was both a dream come true to have my own book and a warning to be careful what you wish for. I am very very proud of the book, but it was a nightmare emotionally to deal with certain people.

Basically I love to write, but I hated dealing with the know it all's and fringe fans that went along with some of the really nice people and things. So if I ever do another book is a big question mark, as much as I love Brian and other musicians.

Also I made no money at all except for a small advance. I put two years of my life into the book. Bought an LP sized scanner to do the photos, did all the editing, arranged 90 percent of all the publicity (and this is with a major company) and I made basically what amounts to a month in bills.

It's just such hard work, even if you love it. I don't throw things together, I want every detail right so this meant weeks of 14 hours in my office just working. Makes that months of hardly anything else. For that you want more than piss.

I have a whole unpublished book on the Beach Boys which has some wonderful interviews with people like Brian Wilson but I got sick of updating it and tired of know it all's who spend their whole days doing nothing but listening to them. I'm sorry but my idea of fun isn't listening to 1000 concert tapes.

Frankly the idea of putting my head on the chopping block again is not fun, so unless a company who will give me a real team to help me pops up, I probably am retired from the book game or music biz. Honestly my health is really too poor at the moment anyhow to consider much of anything anyway.
