I also read the book and wished that there had been more focus on Brian the musician and less on the tabloid crap. However, the work of musicians and any artist for that matter is to some extent affected by their personal life and whatever inspiration or grief comes from it. So to a certain extent, the two are inseparable. I did like the fact that it helped set the record straight in terms of Brian being a major creative force in the band, much more than a mere sideman for the GT's. He co-wrote many songs without credit, and made the others a whole lot better. His musical peers recognized this, and it is now coming to light, better late than never.
