RE: I'm not that open minded about music

Generally speaking, I like some form of music over silence. (Silence is also welcome at times.) That's why I'm less inclined to just outright say someone's musical efforts "suck" or someone's musical tastes "suck". (Not that there's anything wrong with that.) Hopefully the music has some soul though. If it' flat or slowly walks into some aimless oblivion I will not like it. At the same time all emotion and grating noise without a meaningful direction or a real meaning puts me off too. ('Waiting On The D Train', is such a song in my mind.) Yet I like Yoko. I just don't like her music.

Needless to say, Rock And Roll is by far my favorite genre to listen to. Rock gets the adrenaline pumping and Rock is what I listen to about 90% of the time. Jazz I don't actually listen to anymore because listening to Jazz played live made all the difference in my mind. I really much prefer live music over the stereo. Plus there was some real talent that came to the "Judge's Chamber" back in those days. That kind of Jazz talent does not pass through here on a regular basis. Not enough to even look for it.

>I can get past some pretty crappy singing if there's a cool guitar<

I'm with you there, 2KMan. Still, I also enjoy, and prefer, great singing and great lyrics which can be understood. For me, a song with those two qualities can transcend a genre I'm not particularly keen on, regardless of the genre. And while the guitar is by far my favorite instrument, a song, even if it is an instrumental, with no guitars, can really grab me and take me away, if the instruments are well played and have plenty of soul and emotion. That happened quite often down there in the Judge's Chambers while I was in the Navy. The people who went there were very cool and friendly as well. Not at all snobby as I feared they might be, the first time I entered the place.

I wouldn't mind going back there but my guess is the place closed up long ago.
