If you are talking about the stuff from Scotland (and that is really the only stuff worth talking about IMO) then it is called "Whisky". This other stuff you talk off... "whiskey" comes from other places.
I don't claim to be an expert on this, but from what I understand, whisky made in Scotland is only called "scotch" or "scotch-whisky", and is never called "whisky" or "whiskey". It is called "whisky" if it is made anywhere else, except it is only called "whiskey" if it is made in Ireland. I think that is how it goes, Ronnie!
