If you are talking about the stuff from Scotland (and that is really the only stuff worth talking about IMO) then it is called "Whisky". This other stuff you talk off... "whiskey" comes from other places.

Everything else, including the desire to drink "whisky" or "whiskey" is personal tastes. I like Johnny Walker and general drink Black Label. There are people that have there loves of single malts. Depending on the brand, it may be an acquired taste. I drink various single malts but I do like a find blend like Johnny Walker.

However, I will pass on any Dewar's products Ronnie
