RE: RE: RE: RE: Let me clear this up better....

I've already described what happens in the song, and why I feel wiki are correct to credit Harrison as well as Lennon with playing 'lead'. The only thing in dispute is that you say Harrison should not be credited for playing 'lead' on the song, while I say it's a fair entry, because Harrison clearly does play 'lead' guitar on the song.

The song opens with John Lennon playing the 'riff' (the hook) which gets him the wiki 'lead' credit. Lennon starts with a barred 'D' at the 10th fret, and plays the riff around it. He then slides the same shape down two frets which takes him down to 'C', and plays the same 'riff'. He then drops the same shape down to the third fret taking him to 'G', and it's at that point that Harrison comes in (that sequence happens again after Harrisons four bar lead solo). As both Lennon and Harrison say in 'Anthology', they then play more or less the same riff in unison, throughout, whenever that 'hook' part occurs.

So if that 'riff' 'hook' 'leitmotif', is what gets Lennon a 'lead' credit at wiki, then logically it should also get Harrison one, because he plays it as well. In fact, at some points (on the G chord) it's only Harrison who plays the 'riff' whilst Lennon plays a G7 chord under it.

The 'guy' you refer to is Ian MacDonald, his book 'Revolution in the Head' is widely regarded as THE book when it comes to breaking down the Beatles recorded output, from the first to last track. I quoted him re the 'riff', and also in regard to Harrisons 4 bar lead solo break. If for whatever reason Harrison

cannot be credited for playing 'lead' on the 'riff' along with Lennon, then he has to be credited for playing 'lead' on that 4 bar solo. It was a conventional, if short, piece of lead guitar playing from the band's recognised lead guitarist. That is of course unless anybody is saying that wasn't Harrison who played it (overdubbed on the record). The person who would claim it wasn't Harrison would find themselves in a minority of, one.

I don't think I can say much more on this without repeating myself, again. So repeating myself again; anybody who is interested in how 'I Feel Fine' was put together, then... The Beatles "I Feel Fine" Lesson by Mike Pachelli...on youtube, is the place for you. There you can see, and hear, exactly what both guitarists were doing on the recording.

Lastly, if you are a fan of the Beatles, their recordings, and how they were put together, then the late Ian MacDonald's 'Revolution in the Head' is a must. It is the recognised masterpiece on the subject, 'Ferociously exact', as the 'New Yorker' put it.
