First, I read about half of that book Shattered and had to put it down cause was so bad and full of crap. But it was 100% because of Jagger that the Stones didn't play at Woodstock. He was filming that movie Ned Kelly at the time and Keith's old lady Anita was also due that very week with their first kid. So the Stones didn't even consider the offer when it came in to them. Any other story as to why they weren't there isn't true but made up.

Lennon BTW, was actually the main reason why the Beatles weren't there, as his drug bust from the year before got in the way and he couldn't get a visa to travel to the US at the time. That's another fact and yes, both bands were invited to play there.
