Well, you gotta love guys like that - who made it big late in life. I noted Hound Dog Taylor in a thread up above. He was that way, too. Although he actually started out playing piano on the radio for King Biscuit while living in the south as a kid, he didn't pick up a guitar till his early teens. He then moved to Chicago and while he played his blues guitar at night in small clubs in a more rock and roll - hell, almost heavy metal way, he worked a day job as a TV repairman and didn't make his first record until he was in his 50s. There are a few others like that around who were the true salt of the earth kind of people who made it late in life.

I didn't know that was the case with Rodney. I just did a fast lookup on him to see when he first made it, but yes, he was from Long Island - born in Deer Park (hell, way back when he was born there - in 1921, there just might have actually been deer there, too!). But I see that he was like Hound Dog was to music, worked PT as a entertainer but didn't make it until the 1960s.

Funny, and I mean real funny, when I was about 12, or 13, a new thing came to the telephone, a number called "The Joke Line", and it was a free call, but I can't remember if it was a 800 number (maybe, but not likely, since 800 toll free lines were only just starting out around that time) or just a local NYC number. But for the first month that it was in operation, it was 100% Rodney's gig, and I loved it. He was so damn funny on there and that is amongst the first things that I can recall about him. I totally forgot about all that until just now, crap, haven't thought of it since back in those days. So I guess I was once a fan of his in the late '60s, for sure, and just forgot. Just can't remember too much of him in the 70s at all, and no, I don't know any of those movies that you mention.
