I think like FB Fatmo I would rate them about equal although I do think Jones was influenced by Harrison. I think it was Harrison who pointed Jones in the direction of the guy who gave him (Jones) instruction on the instrument, although I can't remember the fellow's name.

I think there is a misconception that it was the Kinks who first used a sitar on a pop record with 'See My Friends'. Although it had a sub continent feel, I don't think there was a sitar on it.

I agree with FB that Jones and Harrison's use of sitar was the standout feature of 'PIB' and 'NW', although the lyrics of both songs are quite strong. I guess we have to give Harrison the credit for introducing this particular piece of 'exotic' into the sixties music scene. Btw FB, from memory, I think Harrison's melodic line shadows the vocal line in the last verse of 'Norwegian Wood'. That's from memory though, and my memory is pretty awful. I might be wrong, I've been wrong before, I'll need to go listen lol.
