Wow! You used the term "Radiotelephone" I haven't heard that in years! I have a FCC Tech license. Some of you might refer to it as a HAM license. When I first tried for a license, I was 13 I think? You had to know Morse code for amateur class to land one. I just made it on the part of the test! In the late 80's they did away with the Morse code in the tests and the test move to some more obscure questions. But I landed it.
Gear turntables died with direct drive turntables. The platter just sits on a magnet around the motor. Sure makes cueing easier but you're right, any moron can do it. (And a lot do!!) I love listening to the radio.. I collect and restore them. I have receivers that allow me to tune from 20Khz to 18Ghz. There is some weird shit to be found in the air waves Ronnie!!
