I do recall this day 37 years ago well, heard the news on the radio and felt stunned.
My picks:
Stones poll: 12x5, not their greatest early LP, but better than BnB to my ears anyway.
Rock poll: The Beatles "I Feel Fine", that was a sound you just never heard recorded in those days. In fact it was the first time anybody used feedback in that matter, and of course it was all Lennon's doing/playing. McCartney gave a cool interview on how Lennon came up with that idea and got George Martin to record it in that matter.
VS poll: I gotta go with the Miracles original take on this one. Yes, Lennon and the rest sing this one nice and well enough, but it sounds almost the same as the Miracles original, and not any better. In fact, for me, I would say the Miracles sing it just a bit better than the Fabs do.
Beatles poll: I went with "When I Get Home", a song I do like a lot, just not as much as the others on this great LP.
