40 Licks/Days of the week/Sat Nite/Lennon and Fabs

It’s time to talk about week 783 of our Stones poll and we’re continue for one more week the series of questions that are in regard to the Stones album art work: So this week’s question is: Rate the artwork for the front cover of Forty Licks

This 2002 greatest hits/double compilation album by The Stones contained songs from the 1960s, all the way up to 2002. The cover was pretty simple, with the famous tongue and lips looking like the original logo but with a lot of new, bright shiny colors added in to it.

What do you think of this cover? To vote in this week’s Stones’ poll, just click here: Stones Weekly Poll.

In the last week’s Stones poll we asked: Rate the artwork for the front cover of Sucking in the Seventies . This album’s artwork clearly isn’t liked by most fans, yet some fans do like. “1” was the top pick and by a good margin with 18.5% of the vote. A “5’ was the second most voted on number at 12.3%, and “4” was third at 11.7%. But still, 11.2% of the voters gave it a “8”, so where normally when an album cover rates low, it doesn’t see any high scores, but that wasn’t this case with this cover.

You can see the full, final results of the voting by clicking on this link: Stones Weekly Poll - week 782 – poll results.

Now to the Classic Rock Poll, where it’s week 425, and we will run the usual 2 poll questions per week. Here is the first question: What is the best rock song that has a day of the week included in its title? (Part 1 of 3) I was listening to SiriusXM a few weeks back and the DJ noted how there were a lot of songs titled with “Saturday” in them, but few for the middle days of the week. Of course that gave me an idea to run this poll question and I came up with 72 songs for a 3 part series of questions! So thanks to Denis Elsas for noting that. For the heck of it, breaking the days of the week down song wise, Sunday’s list has 18 songs on it, Monday 12, Tuesday 7, Wednesday only 4, Thursday just 6, Friday only 5, and Saturday the most at 19. I was thinking I would find more for Saturday, but heck Sunday almost has as many songs written about it. Oh and there is also one song listed that is titled “Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday”, put out by the Kinks.

For Part 1 of this question, we will run Sunday titled songs thru Monday and part of the songs listed for Tuesday. Part 2 will list the rest of the week’s songs, and you all know how we handle Part 3 of the voting.

To vote in this week’s first rock poll, click on Classic Rock Poll, and when you get to this page, choose “Poll 1” to vote on this question.

Our VS Rock poll this week asks this:'Another Saturday Night' (original by Sam Cooke) vs 'Another Saturday Night' (cover by Cat Stevens), which version is best? Frist, it was purely a coincidence that for this week’s VS poll we are also using a song that has a day of the week in it. I only realize it when I built and published the poll yesterday morning.

'Another Saturday Night' was written by Sam Cooke in 1963 and was a top 10 hit for him (and number 1 on the R&B chart). It’s a song about a guy in a new town who can’t find a date. In 1974 Cat Stevens covered the song and also had a top 10 hit with it (it went all the way to #1 in Canada).

As usual, you can hear the 2 versions of the song in the voting booths before you vote, just remember, only vote on the songs and not on the videos. To vote in week’s VS poll, click on Classic Rock Poll, and when you get to this page, choose “Poll 2” to vote on this question.

In last week’s first Rock poll we asked: What was (or is) the best Rock Musical/Opera? This question might not have been a hit with those who read Gasland going on the total votes cast last Monday when most of you vote, yet for the rest of the week when most others vote, a high vote count took place! So some rock fans do dig musicals I see. Anyway, of the 54 listed musicals, the top 9 took in 91.6% of the votes. The top 3 picked were: Pink Floyd — The Wall at 12.1%, The Rocky Horror Show at 11%, and Jesus Christ Superstar at 10.8%.

To see the full, final results in the voting, just click on: Classic Rock Poll week 424. Or, to just view the Top 10 Songs only from the list, click on Top Ten Lists, Page, 9.

In last week’s VS poll we asked this question : 'Keep On Rocking In the Free World' (Acoustic) vs 'Keep On Rocking In the Free World' (Electric), both by Neil Young. Which version is best? The final results weren’t close. To see which version came in first, click on the following link: Classic Rock Poll week 424. You can also check out the final results at the Classic Rock’s site’s VS page.

Finally at the Beatles’ poll, it’s week 178, and this week we ask: Had John Lennon lived, do you feel there would had been a Beatles reunion before George Harrison's death? This question is asked a lot since George died, but it was also asked when he was still alive, if the Beatles would have played again if John had lived. No question, John and Paul had made up several years before John’s assassination, and one night in 1976, when Paul was in NYC visiting John at this home, as a joke, Lorne Michaels on Saturday Night Live made a $3,000 offer to see the Beatles reunite on stage for the show (and as an added joke, noted they could split it up in any way they liked and that If they wanted to give less to Ringo, that was okay and up to them), and John and Paul, who were watching the show, at first were going to do it. So that was the closet we ever came to a Beatles reunion.

But do you think if John had lived, that a Beatles reunion really would have taken place before we lost George?, To vote, just click on: Beatles Weekly Poll.

In last week’s Beatle poll we asked: Of the 10 most disliked Beatles songs listed (as voted on by fans), which one is the best? As noted last week, it’s hard to believe some of the great songs in the top 10 of this list that we voted on. The top 3 picks were: “A Day in the Life’ (41.6%), “Hey Jude” was second (at 16.8%). and third place went to “Helter Skelter” (at 15.8%).

In closing, and as usual, thanks to all of you who take part in voting in all of our polls!
