RE:A few replies and my picks

I wonder why you added Gloomy Sunday by Sinaed O'Connor but left out Billie Holiday's take from the 40's.

Billie Holiday's take of the song is a classic, no question she made the song famous. But there wasn't any rock n roll yet when she sang it and she wasn't a rocker, so that's why she isn't listed. You will notice in our poll choices I only make 2 or 3 exceptions to this rule on if an artist was a rocker or not and if they should be listed. I do it for Robert Johnson almost every time since he's rock's godfather, and sometimes I do it for Muddy Waters, and once in a while (but not this time) for Ray Charles, who also sang and had a hit with that very same song.

I voted for Cat Stevens by accident. Keno, could you change my vote to Sam Cooke?

No problem!

"Tuesday Afternoon" is really good also. And next week I may be voting for "Tuesday's Gone".

You only 'may'? You are the reason why "Tuesday's Gone" wasn't listed this week. Heck, when I split up the list I had to leave out 2 Tuesday songs to get an even number of songs listed for each part, and I was thinking that DA would want to vote for both RT and TG, so that's why I saved it for next week!

My picks:

Stones poll: Another dull, boring Stones cover, even if the colors are bright, so I gave it a "5".

Rock poll: "Ruby Tuesday" might be my favorite song listed this week but I didn't vote for it for 2 reasons. First, it doesn't need my vote, and second, the Monkees "Pleasant Valley Sunday", my pick, has always been a favorite of mine and was the one song as a kid that I identified with since it described the neighborhood I grew up in and how I hated that place and how I wanted to leave and move out west. Gerry Goffin and Carole King wrote that song about the NYC suburbs, only it was about a street named "Pleasant Valley" in NJ, not in NY state. Still, all the suburbs are the same there, be it NY or NJ - and as Billy Joel sang "Who needs a house out in Hackensack, is that all you get for your money?" is so true! I needed a change of scenery from the rowes of the houses that all looked all the same, and thank goodness I got that change!

VS poll: Both versions are great, but I'll go with the Cat's take of it since he did improve it just a bit. I think that organ he used fit in excellently with the song.

Fab poll: Absolutely, no question about it, there would have been a Beatles reunion, but I don't think for money matters. They all did well with money after the split and if that was to be the only reason for them holding a reunion, it never would have happened. But they all were into giving to charity and one of those big charity concerts would have gotten them to play together again. My guess is it would have been The 1985 Live Aid concert. I think it would have been that one which would have brought them back together.
