There is that confusing word lead again, which really should be soloist. Keith is normally the lead guitarist, which is the person the band follows. There are times when Jagger is even the lead guitarist. Taylor playd very fluently and created some cool solos and licks during is tenure with the band, but the golden period would have been great regardless of him. It was the bands rediscovery of the blues during 1968 and hooking up with Jimmy Miller that made them so great durng that era. Having said that I wouldn't change a thing and enjoy and relish many of Taylor's contributions.
