YTou know, I've been thinking about this. I mean if I were living in Northern California and there was a festival going on with The Rolling Stones, Santana, CSNY, Jefferson Airplane, the Grateful Dead (OK so they didn't play, but I wouldn't have known that in advance). Would I want to go? Well, initially yes, but then, the location - right in the middle of redneck country - and that was THEN in 1969, not now!!! I can imagine how rural it was back then, and I think I'd have had some clue about the sort of people hanging out around there - it was a long way from the counter-culture, a long way from anything going on in San Francisco or Berkeley!!! If I had gone, I think I'd have been sufficiently aware of where I was going to wonder why I was going to a festival during the rainy season, to where? Altamont!!! Isn't that in the Central Valley? Farming communities? I don't think so!!! Bring them to somewhere nice on the West coast, somewhere near the City, or Monterey and I'd go, but the desert - no thank you!!! I was never one for camping out, and I don't think I'd have been happy in a motel or worse, camping out!!! Not my style!!! I'd have waited to see each band separately!!! That would have been my decision at the time - BEFORE knowing what we all know now!!!
