Interesting post. I know diddley squat about the Eagles live, but I do know that Skynyrd did the same thing. Because that's the way RVZ wanted it and what RVZ wanted, he got. And on top of that, they really weren't big on the visual aspect either. Except for Allen Collins, they basically stayed in the same spot during the entire show. Yet if you look at the vids and listen to the boots or to the live album, One More From The Road (try to get the deluxe 25th anniversary edition), you realize what a killer live act they were! So there's gotta be more to it than how you play the songs.
That said, one of my greatest pleasures of listening to the great live Stones boots of the early 70s is to hear Mick Taylor "reinvent" his solos every time he plays LIV, or GS, or whatever other song he shines on.
It seems to me that each band brings its own strengths (and maybe weaknesses too) to the stage. Could it be that you found what you heard boring mostly because you're not a huge fan of the band?
