RE: No Mumbo Jumbo, just important, needed talk!

Literally within a couple of hours, a senator (State or Federal, I don't recall) was posting something online about how people shouldn't jump to conclusions about changing gun laws in light of the incident.

We hear this every time from the GOP after a major shooting takes place, it's nothing new, but it is getting old. They don't want to talk about it now since they claim it's too soon. No, what it is - is that it's too late, we should had stopped the sale of these weapons decades ago and none of these many killings throughout the years would never have happened in the first place. That's why I wrote what I did about us needing to take action - this second!

BTW, see what this moron Congressman in the GOP from Texas has to say who's to blame: Congressman Blames Music and Video Games, Not Guns For Texas Shooting

In the country I am from there are far, far fewer mass shootings, and I still think there are too many here.

You live in a good country that sees the light. I understand after what happen here, your country decided to take more action to make everybody living there safer, including on Monday to introduced new gun-control legislation that, if passed, would implement a “national freeze” on buying, importing, transferring and selling handguns, capping the number of such weapons already in the country. The following comes from an article I just found on-line about this new bill:

The bill, which officials here cast as “the most significant action on gun violence in a generation,” also includes “red flag” laws that would allow judges to temporarily remove firearms from people deemed to be a danger to themselves or others and stiffer penalties for gun smuggling and trafficking.

Such measures enjoy broad public support. The bill is likely to pass with the support of the New Democratic Party. But The Conservatives there of course criticized Liberal gun-control efforts, charging that they unfairly target law-abiding gun owners .

The government already banned 1,500 makes and models of “military-style assault weapons” in 2020, after a gunman in Nova Scotia, killed 22 people, in the country’s deadliest mass shooting.

The government said Monday that it plans to introduce a mandatory buyback program that would offer compensation to owners of the banned firearms and hopes to begin buying back the guns, including AR-15s, the kind used in the school attack in Texas, by the end of the year.

So, what has been considered here in America so far? Really nothing at all. The Republican party has stated that a ban on assault weapons will not be allow to happen and is a non-starter on any talks with the Democrats. This is the same BS coming from the GOP and it only means as long as they hold around 50 seats in the Senate, nothing will be passed in the next year, period.

I am guessing we will be sitting here one year from now and we will see that almost nothing has happened in terms of changing the laws since this horrific shooting.

This November will tell us if that turns out to be the case or not. If people are total fools, they will vote for the Republicans again and yes, nothing will change and more little children and adults will be killed in the coming years. But if the people of this country are fed up and now finally see the light, things will change. But time does heal wounds, and while that's usually a good thing, in this case it isn't at all. If only the parents of the dead children are the only ones still hurting come November, then noting will happen, and we will have no new laws on the books for next year or the years to come. One thing I do know is that those parents will still be hurting, but will everybody else?
