Paul Jones was the lead singer of the band called "Manfred Mann" (and on this song), and yes he is still alive today. The last work that he did was as a Deejay for the BBC, which ended about 2 years ago. Manfred Mann the person the band was named after, since the band members thought his name was cool, was the keyboardist for the group, but wasn't a singer or the band's leader, and several years later, in the early '70s, he had a second band named after him, that being the "The Manfred Mann Earth Band", and that band was yet another very successful band that he didn't sing lead in either, and in which he was again the keyboard player only. A very lucky guy, to say the least.
One last note on Jones with a Stones connection.... in 1961-2, he and Brian Jones sang duets together in clubs, and when Brian Jones was putting the Stones together, it was Paul Jones who he asked first to be the band's lead singer. Jones turned Jones down, and after Brian met Mick a few weeks after seeing him singing up on stage in a club, he asked him if he wanted to sing lead for his new band and MJ said yes, as long as his friend Keith Richards could also be in the band, and of course Brian was cool with that.... Yet the always wrong Wiki site (in regard to the early Stones history), in what they have up on the page for Paul Jones - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paul_Jones_(singer), has that story all wrong, claiming it was Keith Richards and Brian who asked MJ to join the Stones. Keith wasn't even known yet to Brian until after Mick asked that he be in the new band, and BJ said yes. So Keith had nothing at all to do with Mick becoming a Stone, it was the other way around, as once again Wiki gets yet another Stones story totally wrong! It isn't worth me trying to fix and edit that mistake there either, even if I'm still an editor for them, since when it comes to the Stones and Keith Richard, one or 2 of his hardnosed fans who also edit there, will go and change it back to the incorrect info that shows, as they always seem to want to make him into a bigger god then he already is. They go as far as saying that Keith started the Stones, since I guess Keith stated that lie himself several years ago. That old BS at Wiki is really getting old, Ronnie!
