RE: "Gomper" reply

And by the way, as I have recounted here before, my handle of "gomper" was chosen without any thought to is meaning.

Yes, and it's fumy because I ran into that very tread (via Google, when I was looking for different takes of the song) just last week when I decided to go with that song for this week's poll. I had played a few of the different takes of the song that are up on YouTube and somebody who posted yet another version of this song over there, and noted what you told Gasland about you learning after you picked the handle for yourself that it was about a "retarded person". I told you that wasn't true at all and what it really meant, and the fact that you were a man of the cloth, well you using that handle actually went very well with that spiritual name, even if you didn't know what it mean when you chose it! But at this YouTube link last week the guy who posted it noted the same thing, so yesterday when I listened to the version he had up, I left a comment letting him know that wasn't true and what it actually meant, and he just replied back to me tonight and thanked me for letting him know the truth (and he removed that lie about what the word meant at his YouTube page, but kept up the page with his version of the song).

The crazy thing is, some asshole started that rumor around 2015 or so, or maybe a year or 2 earlier, and where before 2014 or so there was nothing about that up on the web, now it's up with that stupid slang description on several pages where it never was mentioned before. But it sure as shit didn't mean that in 1968 when the song was made. As I noted at that YouTube page and as I have noted at the site: 'The word "Gomper" comes from the Tibetan Buddhist word "Gompa", which means "temple", and is a term used in some Eastern Religions, having to do with a ritual that is performed to bring peace and happiness to people'... That is what the song's music was written about by Brian, who learned about the ritual while visiting the Himalayas in 1967.
