Poll Post for the week starting Monday, Dec 30

We enter week 2 of the end of the year Holiday Season, and at our Stones poll, where we enter week 1066, we will again ask a more personal question for this last Stones poll of the year. The question is: What kind of year was 2019 for the Stones?

This is a question that I have asked at the end of many past years for the Stones poll, the last time being about 2 years ago. With the band being in their mid-70s now, it really is something that all of them are still with us, still touring, and still making new studio albums (the next one is just about finished and is coming out soon, according to Ronnie Wood). So knowing this band, it seems I could be asking this end of year question for many years to come, too, regardless of how old these guys are.

But what kind of year was 2019 for the Stones IYO? You’ll have 5 choices to choose from when you vote, and yes, they cover everything, from good to bad. To vote, just click here: Stones Weekly Poll.

Looking back at the results for our Stones poll last week, the question asked: It's week 1065 of our Stones poll, for how long have you been voting in this weekly poll?

Interesting results from this one, as is usually the case when this poll question is asked Well, I as the webmaster very much like looking over the vote from this one. It tells me a lot and if you fans still care about these polls after 20 plus years of running them. I see that the results show that the long time voters – and that’s most of you – still like voting each week in the Stones poll (89.1% have been voting now for 7 years or longer), as you keep showing up every week to take part in the voting, and I thank all of you for that! But one could also say, looking at the results of this question from a more negative point of view, that we have almost no new blood here, either, not as far as new voters go, as only 0.3% has been voting here for one year or less. Maybe since the Stones are such an older band, is why? Perhaps, but I’m not gonna worry about it either. While it’s always great to see new voters taking part in the poll, our old-timers are holding on strong, too, and I see this poll and it’s results can last for many years to come, at least as far as you voters go!

To see the full results from this poll, just click here: Stones Weekly Poll - week 1,065.

Okay, let’s now check out this week’s Classic Rock Poll, where we enter week 706 of voting, and for this one we will for the second week in a row, only vote in one Rock Poll instead of the usual two, and the question will be about the New Year. Then next week we will go back to voting in 2 Rock Polls per week and will finally run the final part (Part 3) of the multi week poll question about being stoned.

So here is our New Year’s poll question that asks: Which song listed in our poll is your favorite New Year's song?

Here's a question I never asked before and one that (for the most part), can only be run during New Year's week. So that's this week, and like last week being Xmas week and less voters around, I rather not waste a great question and ask usually ones that have been sitting around for a long time in the future poll files that I keep... like this one. Thing is, after looking over this list of songs to choose from this week, I realize why I never asked the question before, since most of the songs listed just aren't that great (not to my ears anyway), and a couple flat out suck. But this is still a good question to ask for this holiday week, so I'll run it.

One thing you may notice with this poll, is that several of the songs listed, either have the same title or nearly the same titles, yet they are all different songs, too. In fact, 9 of the 12 songs have "New Year" in the song's title… Anyway, to cast your vote in this week’s lone Rock poll, just click there: Classic Rock Poll.

At last week’s Rock poll, the question that we answered was this: Rate Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers live performance video of “Christmas All Over Again”

Tom Petty playing live in D.C.

This song is well liked I see, with a “10” being the top pick with 39.1% of the vote, while another 38.8% gave it a “9” rating.

To see the full, final results from this poll, just go here: Classic Rock Poll 1, week 705. Or you can check out the result from this one - along with the video standings, which combine all of the past video polls by their scores, here: Top Ten Lists, Page, 16. The results can be found near the top of the page.

To finish up this week’s Poll post, let’s talk about the Beatles Poll. This is week 457 of polling, and we’ll answer this question: How many official 'Best Of' or Compilation Beatles albums/releases do you own?

The 4 Beatles together in 1970, in their final days as a group

Like the other polls on the domain, and again for this week, a personal question will be asked for this poll. Plus yes, next week (or should I say next year?) we will get back to rating the Beatles album covers once again.

Now there are a total of 52 such official compilation or 'best of' Beatles albums. If you like, you can check them all out at this page: The Beatles Compilation Albums. I myself realized that I had more of these LPs than I first realized, once I saw the list.

After you add up how many of these albums that you have, you can go here and vote: Beatles Weekly Poll.

In last week’s Beatle poll….the question was: How much of a Beatles fan are you?

A few of the 55,000 Beatle fans at a sold out Shea Stadium in 1965

As I guess I expected to see in the final results before I ran this question, most of our voters are big time Beatle fans. I mean, if you aren’t a fan, why would you vote in this poll otherwise? Anyway, 41% of the voters said they are a hard-nosed, freak fan! To see the poll’s full result, just go here: Beatles Weekly Poll – week 456.

So that takes care of our very last Poll Post of the year. 2020 will be here on Wednesday, and I guess you can pat yourself on the back for making it through yet another crazy year. I find that I don’t go out for New Year’s Eve and party anymore and haven’t for a few years now. That would have been a sin years ago, even when me and the wife had small kids, we still went to a party somewhere on New Year’s Eve and took the younglings along with us. Then before that, in my teen years, this night meant getting totally wasted, other than the one year we went to Times Sq in NYC to watch the ball drop - and also see people getting robbed left and right. You had to keep your hands inside your pockets that night if you didn’t want to lose your wallet! But that was way back in 1972-73 and I got to wonder if things are that bad back there today? Here in Colorado, things are nothing like that. Denver has a wonderful fireworks show above the streets downtown, one at 9pm (for small kids) and then again at midnight for everybody else who don’t go to bed early. I’ve never had the pleasure to go to it, but they show it live on TV and I’ve watch it a few times. The real crazy thing is that this old man, who always got totally wasted on this night in his youth, hasn’t gotten drunk on New Year’s Eve in a good 20 years or so, and I don’t care that I don’t anymore. I’m happy that I don’t live that way anymore. Buzzed? Yes, drunk, no. But this sleepy little town I live in really doesn’t have too much going on anyway. We only got one small bar in town, and while a few friends do hold parities, I haven’t gone for a few years now. It’s usually too cold to vender outside at midnight in most years around here and for this year it should be around zero or below zero degrees F at that time, with over a foot of snow on the ground. So I’ll just stay inside and stay warm!

Anyway, I want to send out an extra “thank you” to all of you who voted each week in our polls during the last year! If nobody voted, there would be no polls run on this domain. These polls are really the last proactive thing that I still do these days on this domain’s music sites and pages. So only thing left to add to this is wish all of you a very Happy New Year and may 2020 be better to all of us than 2019 was!
