You're both right on some points. Ronnie is underrated by fans, yes, but he isn't the greatest at anything, either. I see people will say the same things about Ronnie that they say about BJ, that yes they could play a lot of instruments, but they didn't excel on any of them. That of course, IMO, isn't true at all, as both of them - while not the greatest guitar players around, were/are still great guitarists, and that's just for starters....
The thing about Ronnie, he's a happy-go-lucky guy who has always been there when needed for the Stones, Faces, Jeff Beck, etc. I recall the last show I saw of the Stones (or it may have been the second to last one I attended, one of the 2), Keith was having an off night, he hardly played at all it seemed (and I watched him closely the entire show), other than he came alive for the last song only, and seemed fine on that one song only. His fingers had to be hurting him that night. But Ronnie saved the night and the show that day, he was on fire that night! That's something the Stones can count on him now - and been counting on him to do since '76. He's there to help when needed. He is the band's MVP for sure! I gave him a 9 myself in the voting.
