I recall way back many many moons ago, like in the late '70s, I made the big mistake of being in Tucson Az on a sunny summer day when the temp was somewhere between 106 and 110 degrees. I recall seeing three different temperature readings on bank signs that day, so I'll guess it was around 108 degrees?
Since I walk everywhere, I decided after checking into my hotel room, to head down the road a bit to where there were some fast food joints (I actually used to eat at those places when I was younger). It was like a 10 minute walk one way to get there and on my walk I didn't see a single person out walking, and only a few people out driving - with this happening on a sunny afternoon yet. The humidity was below 10% on that day - but I can tell you first hand that when the temp is above 100 degrees, it just don't matter if there's no humidity in the air or not. The reason why nobody was outside was it was just too damn hot, the people who "live" in the hell hole state of Arizona just don't ever go outside during the day in the summer months when it gets that hot. Period! Can you imagine having to be stuck inside all day long on most summer days, even with the sun shining - because it's too hot? But that is life and a typical summer day in Arizona, you stay home indoors with your air conditioner on high and wait till the sun sets to go outdoors. I'm sorry, but that's no way to live. So it being dry means nothing when it's that hot. (plus to Fender Bender, I don't mean this to sound as a put down to where you live, I bet it isn't that hot all summer long up there where you live like it is in all of Az).
Yes, the way it is back east with 90 degrees feeling like 102 degrees because of the high humidity, sucks big time, but 108 degrees feeling like 106 degrees is just as bad if not worst! Who cares if it's dry at that high a temp? I'll take 94 degrees feeling like 88 degrees anyday, like what we get once or twice a year here, but I prefer temps no higher than 80 on any summer day over heat - period. I also prefer the winter, with it being 20 degrees in the mid afternoon with a foot of snow on the ground to any hot 90+ degree summer day, too, but I know that's just me. But I can walk for hours in the snow and cold (and I used to ski for hours in the snow when I was younger), but you can't walk for long when it's 90 degrees plus! Well I can't anyway, I'd get a stroke walking in 108 degrees temperature today at my age - even with the humidity at 2%!! But I can and still do go out walking with it around zero, too, and I feel great and full of energy after I do that! But these days, after I've been out in the garden watering the plants each day in 90+ degree heat for half an hour, it takes me about 15 minutes afterwards sitting down inside to recover from it! Gee, looking at the clock, it about that time to do that right now I see. Yuck, but it is exercise, so I do it for that reason, well that, and I like the fresh veggies I get to eat, too! So I guess that's the only good thing I get out of of the summer, that and a lot less wash to do too, since we wear a lot less clothes in the summer. Guess I like that too.
