I got to meet him and shake his hand backstage sometime around 1980 (I'm so bad with dates), back when I working for this concert production company in Colorado Springs, and he did a show that our company put on at the State Fairgrounds in Pueblo, Colorado. He was more known then as a country artist but yeah, it was those early pop hits that made him so famous, and he sang most of them on that sunny day at this outside venue. He put on a very good show from what I recall.
