RE: I'll add one more

Speaking of boots, I mentioned this last month but it bears repeating: Stockholm '67 by the Electric Prunes is one of the best live documents of a 60s band there is. Although it became an official release (though not until MUCH later) it might be more accurate to call it an "official boot" due to the fact that it was the official Swedish Broadcasting Corp doing the recording through their official concert hall set-up without the band's permission, not just some bootlegger with a mic in the audience.

Because of this, the sound quality of this album is better than just about any 60s concert I have ever heard. And the performance quality meets it. These guys were incredible! With wicked high energy psych-blues-rock to match the likes of Hendrix, Cream, Doors and anyone else going on at the time. The liner notes and backstory are really interesting too, especially the band's thoughts on their reception by different European cities they were visiting. (Definitely check those out for laughs!) Just as Moby Grape influenced Robert Plant in particular, these guys impressed and perhaps influenced the likes of Jimi Hendrix, who invited them over to his flat and then hung out with Brian Jones with them too.

It's too bad they disintegrated not long after this. I've fully digested their first two albums now, and while a good third of each one is too baked and corny for me the rest is impressive stuff, and it should be noted that Dave Hassinger was the main sound man involved. Yes, this is the same guy involved with the Stones on a bunch of their early stuff, (notably Satisfaction, and Aftermath) and who also worked with the Dead, the Airplane, Sinatra, and Crosby, Stills, Nash and more. It is funny just how interconnected the offshoots and behind-the-scenes-players of so many of my interests end up being.
