RE: Mets, Yanks... and RIP Don Baylor ...nsc

Yeah, that '68-'69 Jets season with Namath was great indeed! Got to see a couple of games at Shea that year. You also bring up some long forgotten Ranger names, too!

I haven't lived in the greater NYC area for over 40 years now, yet back in the '60s and '70s, most fans from there were into the Mets, Rangers (or Islanders in the '70s), Knicks, and Jets. If not that combo, they then were into the Yankees, Nets, and Giants. It was rare when a person was both a Yankee fan and a Met fan, in fact back in those days, I never heard of anybody being both. I also recall 95% of those who lived on Long Island were Mets fans and hated the Yankees. Then I recalled years later, in the '90s on a visit back there, I noticed all of these damn Yankees fans on LI! What a bunch of turncoats, indeed!

I always hated the Yankees myself, as a teen me and my friends would go to one Yankees game a year - just to boo them, and we had no problems with any of the Yankees fans there, since Yankee stadium was usually empty every time we went there, as the Mets totally outdrew them all the time back in the early to mid 1970s. Then they rebuilt the old Yankee stadium in the late '70s, the Yanks got better, the Mets turned real bad, and things changed for the worst! Yet I'm still a Mets fans today, although I root for the Rockies, too... BTW, RIP Don Baylor, the Rockies very first skipper... He managed them for their first 6 years, and he died of cancer today. He was a very cool guy indeed!
