Keno, can you tell us if JL was considered joining the Stones after MT left?
I never heard anything, ever, about John Lennon joining the Stones, this is the first time I have. So no, it ain't true. The only thing close to that was Brian Jones, after he left the Stones, wanted to form a band with Lennon, and Lennon said he would think of it after BJ asked him about it, since Lennon knew the Beatles didn't have long to live as far as being a band went. But Brian of course also only had 3 weeks to live himself. Yet my guess is that Jones, had he lived, would have put together a true super band, just from who he was talking to to play with.
As far as those who the Stones talked to about joining after MT left, there were many besides Harvey Mandel, including Eric Clapton, who was also considered when BJ left. Rory Gallagher was another one, and what a choice he would had been! Then there was Wayne Perkins, Mark Knoppfler, George Thorogood, Ry Cooder (but he was already pissed off at Keith by this time and won't ever had joined). Elton John's long time guitarist Davy Johnstone was another who was considered, dropping by to play with the Keith one day, he too would have been a nice addition. But I think the Stones knew they were going to end up with Ronnie all along.
