People who almost joined the Stones...?

I was just reading about Harvey Mandel and how he almost became part of the band. Keith wanted the band to remain 'all English' and there may have been other factors as well. Frankly I had never heard of Mandel. Makes we wonder who else 'almost got there'?

After Bill Wyman left the band, it kind of sounded like they were calling Darryl Jones an actual 'member' or 'replacement'. But it was soon clarified that he was a touring member or hired hand, and not really one of the Rolling Stones.
