Stones back sides/Rock siblings/Beatle Paul

Week 829 of our Stones poll is here and this week we will ask this question:: Of the Stones albums listed, which one had the best back cover?

Well after rating all of the front covers, now it’s time to rate the back ones, but only on the ones that have what are good back covers (IMO). Many do, as we got 22 backsides to choose from, but at least for this question, we will get an answer to the question in just one week’s time.

Now when I put this list together, I had to do a lot of it from memory of what the back covers used to look like, since I mainly only own CDs of the Stones albums today and the CDs I have in many cases don't show the original back covers, and it's hard to remember all of the back covers compared to the front ones, which without seeing I know by memory. So I did do a Google search for some of them, but chances are I might have missed a good one or 2, since they aren't all to be found online, and I can't recall all of them. But heck, I don't even know what the back cover to GRRR is, since I've never seen it! But if it's as bad as the front cover of that album, it doesn’t need being listed. But if I might have forgotten a cool back cover to list, or if you want to vote for one not listed, please make a suggestion here, but I do need any suggestions ASAP! You can go to the following link to see some back covers that I didn't go with, or you can visit this page if you want to view larger photos of the back covers than what's showing above: https://www.flickr.com/photos/khiltscher/sets/72157618933433064/detail/. Just a note, none of the newer albums after 1970 are shown on this page, and some of the albums shown are not official albums, and we are only voting on official albums in this poll. If you want to see larger back covers of the albums released after '70, you will have to do a Google search, as I don’t know of a site that shows them all on one page/site.

So which back cover of a stones album is your favorite? To make your pick and vote, just click on: Stones Weekly Poll.

In last week’s Stones poll we closed out rating the Stones album covers with this question: Of the 14 Stones album covers that we rated a 10, which one has the best cover? The Sticky Fingers front cover, won by 2.4% of the vote over 2 second place finishers, Exile On Main Street’s cover, and also the front cover of Their Satanic Majesties Request.

To see the poll’s full final results, just click on this link: Stones Weekly Poll - week 828 . This outcome will also be placed online under this list: Ratings for the Stones Album Covers . So you can also see how all of the Stones’ 52 album's covers stacked up against each other in the final standings shown on this page.

Over at the Classic Rock Poll, it’s week 471, and as usual, we will vote in 2 different polls for the week. In the first poll we will ask a brand new question, which is: Which band is the best Rock band thanks to the siblings in the group? Now we are not asking or looking for your favorite band that’s listed, only the band where the siblings were an important part of the band's success. Plus that means not just in singing, but also in their music contributions to the band, too. In other words, consider everything!

You can just look over this list of 32 different bands and see that many of them were great bands for sure, but which ones turned out that way thanks to the siblings in the group? To vote and let us know, just click on: Classic Rock Poll, and when you get to this page, choose “Poll 1” to vote on this question.

In this week’s VS poll, we ask this: 'Take It Easy': Jackson Browne's original vs The Eagles' original, which version is better?

This is only the second time that I can recall where I'm running a VS poll where both artists can claim that the same song being polled is an original for both bands ("Wooden Ships" by CSN and the Airplane was the first one). Although this song was mainly written by Jackson Browne, he had it about 90% completed when his then neighbor, Glenn Frey, dropped by for a visit when he was working on the song one day. Frey loved what he heard and asked if he could use it for his new band's album, which at the time was when the newly formed Eagles were putting their first LP together. Browne told him that would be okay after Frey pressured him a bunch, but he also told him that he would still be using the song himself on his next album, and that the tune needed a few more lyrics written for it. So Frey added in one verse, and what he added in, was perhaps the best lyric in the entire song, that being "...such a fine sight to see, it's a girl, my Lord, in a flatbed Ford slowing down to take a look at me..." Browne had already written the part about "Standing on a corner in (Winslow) Arizona..." but had nothing to go with it and Frey's lyrics were perfect to finish it off. Yet the story that sparked Fey to write the lyric, came from Browne, after he told Frey 2 true stories of his meeting a young girl in Flagstaff (not Winslow), Arizona, who was driving by in a Toyota (not a Ford), and then a few days later, he was stranded in Winslow after his van broke down. Frey then took those 2 stories, put them together, and wrote the rest of the lyrics for that great line of the song.

The Eagles, with Frey singing the lead vocals, released the song first, in May of 1972 as the band's first single. It peaked at #12 on Billboard's Hot 100 chart. It also was the opening track on the band's debut album Eagles, and it became the band's most loved song in time. Browne released the song in 1973 as the opening song on his second album For Everyman. His version sounds a lot like the Eagles, other than the excellent pedal steel guitar played by the Flying Burrito Brothers' Sneaky Pete Kleinow, stands out on Browne's version.

So which song out of the 2 will you vote for? To cast your vote in this week’s VS poll, click on Classic Rock Poll, and when you get to this page, choose “Poll 2” to vote on this question.

In last week’s first Rock poll we asked: Which rock song has the hardest to understand lyrics? As noted last week, this was the first rerun of a Rock Poll question that I ever asked, since back in ’09 when it was first asked, I forgot to list 3 songs that I just knew would make a difference if they were given a chance to be voted on… and I was right on all 3 songs, as the poll results this time were very much different. One of those songs, “The Israelites” by Desmond Dekker, was the top pick (at 9.8%), and although I didn’t think myself it’s the hardest to understand, I had a feeling it would be picked first. Second place went to “Immigrant Song” by Led Zeppelin (9.5%), and third place saw a tie between “Green River” by Creedence Clearwater Revival (the song that was picked first last time) and “Smells Like Teen Spirit” by Nirvana (at 9.1% each). The other 2 added in songs to the poll, “Tenth Avenue Freeze Out’ by Bruce Springsteen, and “Young Americans” by David Bowie (which I voted for) finished tied in the very next spot for 5th place. So yes, I’m happy now that this important question has finally been run in the correct matter.

To see the full, finial results from this poll, click on: Classic Rock Poll 1, week 470. You can also check out the Top 10 list from this poll at Top Ten Lists, Page, 3. You more than likely can tell by the low number of “3”, that this is an old page at the site and where the top 10 for this question has been located at since ’09, and I felt the new results might as well stay on this page, too.

In last week’s VS poll, we asked: 'For You': Bruce Springsteen's original vs. Manfred Mann's Earth Band cover, which version is better? Well from looking at the final results from this poll, I see that I’m back to picking the second choice (in other words, the loser) in this poll again, something that I’m real good at. To see if you picked the choice that most of the other voters picked, just go here: Classic Rock VS Poll, week 470. You can also check out the final results at the VS results page 2, at the Classic Rock site, just click on: VS Page 2, List Page 10.

Now to our Beatles’ poll, where it’s week 224, and we ask yet another guitar question, but this time not for John, but for Paul: What was Paul's most significant acoustic guitar part while playing in the Beatles? Although Paul was the most versatile member of the Beatles, and he played a lot more lead guitar while in the group than many realized, he didn't play a whole lot of acoustic guitar while in the band, either. He was the band’s bass player after all, but still he did play some acoustic guitar, too, and since I’m asking this question for all of the Beatles (other than Ringo), it’s his turn this week for us to find which song he played the instrument best on.

To vote this week’s Beatles poll and make your pick, please use this link: Beatles Weekly Poll.

In last week’s Beatle poll we asked: John Lennon's acid lead guitar on the Beatles 'Revolution' vs Lennon's acoustic guitar on The Beatles 'Norwegian Wood (This Bird Has Flown)'. Which song is his guitar playing best on? Well the final results were very close indeed!. To see which song was picked, just click here: Beatle’s Weekly Poll – week 223. Or, you can check out the same results at the John Lennon Poll Page, located at the domain’s Lennon Site.

Well are you enjoying your summer yet? It hasn’t gotten too hot here yet and I’m hoping it will stay that way, but we have seen a bunch of rain at my house, and even more hail in the last week alone. That not only keeps it cooler, but for the first time in several years, we haven’t had to worry about forest fires, either, and that is of great relief, to say the least…. Gosh, this is also a major holiday week in the US, but with the holiday on Saturday, it doesn’t feel like a holiday week, not for me anyway, not yet. But I hope everybody has a great upcoming week and as always, I thank those of you who voted in the polls! If you didn’t vote yet, come on and please vote, it only takes a few seconds to do!
